Precautions Before taking Risperidone

· In children 10 to 17 years of age, the initial dose is 0.5 mg once a day, in the morning or evening. However, the maximum dose is not more than 6 mg per day.

· In children younger than 10 years of age, the dosage and the use both are decided by the doctor.

For irritability associated with autistic disorder

· In children, 5 to 16 years of age weighing 20 kilograms (kg) or greater, the initial dose is 0.5 milligrams (mg) per day.

· In children 5 to 16 years weighing less than 20 kg, the initial dose is 0.25 mg per day.

· In children younger than 5 years of age, the use and dosage are decided by the doctor.

For schizophrenia

· In adults, the initial dose is 2 milligrams (mg) per day. Though, the maximum dose is never more than 16 mg per day.

· In older adults, the initial dose is 0.5 mg 2 times a day.

· In children 13 to 17 years of age, the initial dose is 0.5 mg once a day, in the morning or evening. However, the maximum dose is not more than 6 mg per day.
